Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs) and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor (ACEI) Utilization Evaluation
Posted: 8/25/2003

Study Population:

  • The study population includes adult commercial New York and New Jersey HMO, POS and PPO members identified as receiving at one script of ACEI or ARBs between the time frame of August 1, 2002 and February 28, 2003.

Objectives:

  • This study describes ACEI/ARBs prescribing patterns among members who were diagnosed with hypertension and with hypertension coexisting diabetes; showing incidence of additive therapies and drugs switching. The analysis of the utilization reports will be used to implement an intervention program to generally educate physicians the advantage of prescribing ACEI and ARBs for members having both diabetes and hypertension.

Utilization Reports:

    Pharmacy Claims
  • describes the demographic population of members who were using ACEI/ARBs drugs, by gender and by age category
    Study Groups
  • identifies three study groups for all ACEI/ARBs utilizers, with diabetes coexisting hypertension, and who do not have a diabetes diagnosis
    Drug Combinations
  • frequency counts of members using at least one script or any combinations of ACEI/ARBs
    DACON Figures
  • ACEI/ABRs utilization findings with corresponding DACON (Daily Average Consumption) national comparative figures
  • DACON = Total Quantity/Total Days Supply
  • View SAS Code
    Drug Dosage
  • emphasizes on the population of ACEI/ARBs utilizers on a twice-a-day vs once-a-day regimen
    Drug Compliance Ratio
  • To calculate drug compliance ratio: CR = Days of Interval/(Sum of Days Supply - Last of Days Supply)
  • First step is to calculate the Days of Interval = FirstDateFilled - LastDateFilled
  • Second step is to calculate the Sum of Days Supply = Total Days Supply - Last of Days Supply
